AND THE HOUNDS were founded by Toronto based
filmmaker/songwriter Steve Sanguedolce in 1991. Steve has been an
active member of Toronto's independent film community for the past
twenty years winning several international awards for his films.
With musical influences ranging from Bob Dylan, the Talking Heads
to Tom Waits, the SWEETBLOOD sound combines thoughtful lyrics with
an infectious, rhythmic musical energy. Known for his witty diatribes,
Sanguedolce has performed for audiences in Puerto Rico, Mexico,
Costa Rica, Quebec and Ontario.
SWEETBLOOD
AND THE HOUNDS' music falls within the alternative music genre.
The material tends to be upbeat, rock based with a strong driving
rhythm section rooted in a jazzy-funk style. It combines witty,
provocative lyrics with an infectious melody and a rhythmic, driving
energy. Together, the songs create a musical stew drawing from several
influences ranging from 70's rock and roll to 80's ska-punk all
the way to 90's grunge.
“
SWEETBLOOD AND THE HOUNDS (UNMUZZLED) caught my attention. Songs
are rock-based, but have a jazz feel that ripples underneath every
track, at the same time holding everything to a good, solid groove.
Different, certainly, in this day of Bush and Pearl Jam wannabes”.
- Karen Pace, CHART Magazine
“ A hauntingly engaging voice...A
young poet with a lot to say who possesses an acerbic wit and ruthless
intelligence...A writer of promise”. -
Gary 17, T.O. Night
“ The band presents an exciting
and energetic foray into popular musical forms with a unique, idiosyncratic
flavor and twist. His lyrics are constructed through aphoristic
haiku-like phrases like a minstrel reporting on a landscape of raw
nerve ended human emotion”. - Gary
Popovich, GMP Productions
“ With songs that touch upon
the sounds of blues/folk/and even Celtic elements, there is a serious
growth process evident in their lyrical and musical contributions
in that they enjoy taking their songs right to the bone. A steep
jump especially from their highly successful last CD, UNMUZZLED.
With such a positive glow emanating from Sweetblood and Hounds through
FETCH THIS , it's no surprise that a passionate and sincere CD can
actually take you somewhere truthful”. -
Luca DÕAddario, SHOWCASE
"
He's got the kind of voice you just can't quite put your finger
on. Haunting is also a good way to describe his sound, despite the
Talking Heads/Bob Dylan influences that come shining through - just
check out "Start Over" if you need proof. This is another
one of those bands whose songs sound so deceptively simple and sparse
while coming across so strong -- "In The Rain" is practically
3D. Fetch This is an interesting listen". -
